Prayer and Liturgy
Prayer and liturgy are central to life at St John Fisher Catholic Primary School. They shape who we are as a Catholic community and help us grow together in faith, reflection and love.
Through prayer, worship and shared experiences of faith, we nurture children’s spiritual development and help them build a personal relationship with God.
Inspired by our mission:
“We stand united in faith with the courage to build a loving world of truth, justice, peace and wisdom,”
we provide opportunities for all children to encounter God in meaningful and age-appropriate ways throughout the school day.
Prayer in Daily School Life
Prayer is part of the rhythm of everyday life at St John Fisher. Children are encouraged to pray with confidence, reverence and joy through opportunities including:
- Morning, lunchtime and end-of-day prayers
- Class prayer and reflection time
- Spontaneous and child-led prayer
- Traditional Catholic prayers
- Prayer linked to liturgical seasons and feast days
- Moments of quiet reflection and gratitude
Children are supported in understanding that prayer can take many forms — spoken, sung, silent, reflective or creative.
Prayer and Liturgy
Prayer and liturgy help children deepen their understanding of faith and strengthen their sense of belonging within our Catholic family.
Throughout the year, pupils participate in:
Class Prayer and Liturgy
Children help to plan and lead prayer experiences linked to scripture, themes and the liturgical calendar.
Whole School Worship
As a school community, we gather regularly to celebrate important moments in the Church year, reflect on Gospel values, and come together in prayer.
Celebration of the Liturgical Year
Children learn about and celebrate important seasons and feasts including:
- Advent
- Christmas
- Lent
- Holy Week and Easter
- Pentecost
- Saints’ feast days
- Marian celebrations
Mass and Parish Worship
Children regularly participate in Mass and special liturgical celebrations, strengthening links between school, parish and family faith life.
Pupil Leadership in Prayer
We encourage children to take an active role in prayer and liturgy through leading worship, preparing readings, writing prayers, choosing scripture and supporting moments of reflection.
This helps pupils grow in confidence, responsibility and understanding of their role within the Church community.
At St John Fisher, prayer and liturgy help us pause, reflect, celebrate and grow together as disciples of Christ.
Together, we grow in faith, guided by light and courage.
Love. Learn. Shine.
