Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE)
At St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, we believe that Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) plays an important role in helping children grow into confident, respectful, compassionate and responsible individuals.
Rooted in Catholic teaching and Gospel values, our approach supports children in understanding relationships, personal wellbeing, emotional development and the dignity of every human person.
We recognise that parents and carers are the first educators of their children, and we value working in close partnership with families to support children as they grow and develop.
Our Catholic Approach to RSHE
At St John Fisher, RSHE is taught in a way that reflects the teachings of the Catholic Church and supports children in understanding that every person is uniquely created and loved by God.
Our teaching promotes:
- Respect for self and others
- Healthy and positive relationships
- Human dignity and compassion
- Emotional wellbeing and personal safety
- Responsibility, kindness and respect
- The importance of family and community
Children are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience, empathy and an understanding of how to make safe and positive choices.
Ten Ten Programme
We follow the Ten Ten Catholic programme to support the delivery of Relationships, Sex and Health Education.
This programme is rooted in Catholic teaching and has been developed to help children understand relationships, emotional wellbeing, physical health and personal dignity in an age-appropriate and faith-filled way.
Through carefully planned lessons, pupils explore themes including:
Created and Loved by God
Understanding individuality, personal dignity and emotional wellbeing.
Created to Love Others
Building healthy relationships, friendships, family life and respect for others.
Created to Live in Community
Understanding responsibility, citizenship, safety and positive contributions to society.
Lessons are delivered sensitively and appropriately for each age group, helping children feel safe, informed and supported.
Partnership with Parents and Carers
We believe open communication between school and home is essential. Parents and carers will be informed about curriculum content and provided with opportunities to view materials and ask questions.
We are committed to ensuring RSHE reflects both Catholic teaching and the needs of children growing up in the modern world.
