Sports Premium
Developing Healthy, Active and Confident Children
At St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, we believe that physical education and sport play an important role in helping children flourish. Through PE, sport and physical activity, children develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, leadership and a lifelong appreciation of healthy living.
Our mission calls us to "stand united in faith with the courage to build a loving world of truth, justice, peace and wisdom," and we recognise that physical wellbeing is an important part of helping every child achieve their God-given potential.
Through our LIGHT values, we encourage children to:
Love by showing respect, encouragement and teamwork.
Integrity by demonstrating honesty, fairness and good sportsmanship.
Growth by embracing challenge and striving to improve.
Hope by showing resilience and perseverance.
Togetherness by supporting one another and celebrating success as a school community.
What is the PE and Sport Premium?
The PE and Sport Premium is additional Government funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality of physical education, physical activity and sport.
At St John Fisher, we use this funding strategically to improve teaching, broaden opportunities for pupils, and promote healthy lifestyles across the school.
How We Use Our Funding
We invest our funding to ensure that all children benefit from high-quality PE experiences and opportunities to be active.
This includes:
-
Specialist sports coaching to support pupils and develop staff expertise.
-
High-quality PE resources and equipment.
-
Swimming and water safety provision.
-
Opportunities to participate in a range of sports and physical activities.
-
Professional development for teachers and support staff.
-
Initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles and physical wellbeing.
Developing Teacher Expertise
One of our key priorities is ensuring that children receive high-quality PE teaching.
Throughout the year, specialist sports coaches work alongside teachers, providing coaching, modelling effective practice and supporting professional development. This helps build staff confidence and expertise, creating sustainable improvements that benefit pupils year after year.
Swimming and Water Safety
We are committed to ensuring that children develop confidence and competence in the water.
During the spring term, we were delighted to host a mobile swimming pool on site, enabling every class to participate in swimming lessons. This provided valuable opportunities for pupils to develop swimming skills, water confidence and water safety awareness in an accessible and engaging environment.
Sport Beyond the Classroom
We want every child to enjoy being active and to experience the benefits that sport can bring.
Alongside curriculum PE lessons, children have opportunities to take part in sporting events, competitions, enrichment activities and active play throughout the school day.
Our Commitment
At St John Fisher, we are committed to helping every child develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to lead a healthy and active life.
Through high-quality PE, sport and physical activity, we aim to inspire children to challenge themselves, work together, persevere through difficulties and develop habits that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Love. Learn. Shine.
